| “When I was young, I followed my teachers who walked around the countryside to paint landscapes on location. At the time, I saw Yenanchaung’s spectacular scenery and tried painting it. I was familiar with river banks, gorges, groves, tropical trees, a ranges of hillocks and amber fields of grass covered with warm colours. While I learned how to paint landscapes, I did not have a serious attitude toward the views then. “After I left my hometown, I would still go back to see the portrait of my native land, Yenanchuang and surroundings. I loved to paint those river banks, those hillocks, those gorges and that brush. And then And then I would return home, refreshed. While I was there, I would make watercolour sketches and collect photographs, and then paint some of the landscapes from these sketches and photographs. Whenever I finished a painting of my native land, I felt as if a part of my home was near me again. “It is very satisfying to know that others will observe the atmosphere of my native land in my landscapes.” |

| 1968 Born 3 December in Yenanchaung, central Myanmar 1979 After loving to draw and paint since early childhood, he began drawing and painting under Yenanchaung artists U Aung Maung, U Sein Win, and U Tin Nyunt. 1980 Won Honourable Mention at Shankar’s International Children’s Competition, India. 1981 Won Honourable Mention at Child Art Competition, Czechoslovakia. 1986 Finished school at No. 1 State High School, Yenanchaung. 1993 Received diploma in electrical power from Thakhin Pho Hla Gyi Technical Institute, Chauk 1994 Moved to Yangon, where he studied illusration under U Hla Htun and began his career as an illustrator. 1995 Began studying oil painting under U Thet Nyunt. 1996 Began writing articles on art and the art world of Myanmar, under the pen name Ko Thi Aung. 2001 Met U Win Pe Myint, and gained knowledge of colour. 2004 Became a member of New Treasure Art Gallery. 2010 Deceased 10 May 2010.
